A dog for the holidays…help reach 1,000,000!!!
Many children have Christmas dreams of puppies. Meaning, they hope to wake up on Christmas morning, run into the room where the big Christmas tree is filled will presents and there the puppy will be, donned with a large red ribbon around its neck. Wouldn’t it be special to make that wish come true for all of the us who would like to add a furry friend to our family? However, one of the most important decisions regarding acquiring a dog should be where the dog will come from. I hope that all of my readers understand the importance of adopting a dog from your local shelter or rescue organziation.
In an attempt to assist with this effort I want to remind you about a program that I blogged about a while back. To be exact, it was November 1st and I was letting you know about a wonderful program called the Iams Home for the Holidays Pet Adoption Drive. This effort is sponsored by Iams Pet Foods and the Helen Woodward Animal Shelter. It was about 10 years ago when the initial effort began. The Woodward Shelter worked with 14 San Diego animal shelters to find homes for as many animals as possible. That first year, almost 2600 animals found new homes and the efforts and results have increased every year. The goal for this holiday season is to find 1,000,000 animals “forever” homes and families to love. I am happy to say that to date, 760,599 adoptions through Home4theHolidays has taken place already this season.
Please encourage friends and relatives who plan on bringing home a new pet for Christmas, to use their local shelter. Check out the website by clicking here and seeing what you can do to help reach the 1,000,000 mark!!!
