Another Dog Food Recipe

Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
2 cups cooked brown rice
2 cans sweet potato
2 whole eggs, shells and all.
1 can mackerel
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound chicken liver or gizzards
Puree ingredients in a blender or food processor. Pour into a pot and simmer for about two hours. Since this recipe makes a large amount of food, You may need to freeze or refridgerate portions of it, which is fine. Enjoy!

Hi marlena,
That looks easy enough. Cat recipes seem to be so much more complicated. Glad to see that you’re making your own food.

That sounds a bit too good and expensive for a dog… I mean no offence, dogs deserve to eat well, but on the basis of this post, yours seems to eat better than I do!

Is this recipe good for puppies? It sounds ery rich. With all the scare in dog foood contamination lately it’s good to see recipies. I have often thought of boiling my leftover bones and grinding them up. Is that possible?

Hi Jamie,
I would be careful about feeding home-cooked to puppies. They have such delicate nutritional needs. You could try a brand like Wellness, Innova, or Canidae - they are all organic and don’t contain any grains. I feel like those are pretty safe. You might try mixing some home-prepared food in with the puppy’s regular food. And yes, grinding bones is fine!
