Breed Spotlight.. Yorkshire Terrier
Thursday, February 8th, 2007Yorkshire Terriers, named after an English county where they originated, are more commonly refered to as “Yorkies”. These small dogs are spunky and spirited. They are usually confident and unaware of their small size. Their curiosity and disregard for their own size makes for an excellent watch dog. They are also very loving, especially towards their masters, but distrustful of strangers.
Yorkies are sensitive to cold weather which makes them great indoor dogs, even in small apartments or homes lacking a yard. The typical Yorkie weighs between five and seven pounds, and their coat is silky and fine. They make excellent lap dogs, but don’t usually do so well in homes with children.
