Everything you always wanted to know……about dogs!!
There are always questions that we have that we think are no one else has ever thought about. However, the reality of it is that many of the questions we want to ask, even about our dogs are questions that other dog owners have had as well.
The American Animal Hospital Association (www.healthypet.com) has as a part of their website information regarding frequently asked questions and some of them seem rather odd, but that’s the fun of it. For example, here’s one…”My dog’s teeth chatter when he is excited. Should I be worried?” How many of you have that same issue with your dog? Well, the answer, according to the website above says that teeth chattering really isn’t that unusual for dogs, especially when they are excited. However, the recommendation is to watch your dog to insure that this habit isn’t getting more severe and have your vet check out his mouth and teeth next time you’re at the vet.
Here is another, “Is it o.k. to give my dog milk?”. I didn’t realize that many dogs are lactose intolerant. This means that they don’t easily digest milk because that they lack the enzyme beta lactamase, which allows the digestive system to break down the kind of sugar contained in milk. If a dog is lactose intolerant and has milk or milk products, they could suffer from excess gas, diarrhea, or vomiting, just as many lactose intolerant people do. So before you give your dog a bowl of ice cream or a glass of milk, test them with a small amount of the product to determine how well they handle it.
These are just a couple of the quick questions I picked up on this great site. Click on the link above to read more answers to your doggie questions.
