Marley and Me……one week since the opening!!
I have shared a couple of entries about the movie released on Christmas Day titled “Marley and Me”, starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson. As of Monday, December 29th, the movie has grossed $57.1 million dollars….not bad for a dog story!! The story is truly about a dog named Marley and his owners Jennifer and John Grogan and how this crazy neurotic dog changed their lives!!!
A friend of mine was going to see it this weekend with her sister and 7 year old niece. I plan on interviewing her and you’ll see her feelings and reactions to the film in a future entry.
I’ve been waiting for the reviews to begin on this film and they have started to erupt. I’m not looking for this film to be a major theatrical masterpiece, but rather some family entertainment that anyone who has ever had a dog can identify with. Katey Rich, for Cinemablend.com feels that, despite the star power and the difficulty of an autobiographical memoir, “nothing really happens”. Well, in actuality, life happens. And sometimes that isn’t always exciting, but it is realistic. The love, aggravation, and craziness that can happen when you do have a dog in your life is always real and the dynamics of that dog’s life in your household is something most dog owners wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.
Rice softens a bit as she finishes the review as she says the following, “There’s something comforting about this kind of moviegoing experience, spending a little while with a photogenic, utterly boring family
…..but for a Christmas Day outing full of family values and humor, that might be enough.”
Isn’t it time for us to just relax a bit and enjoy the simple pleasures…with the economy, wars raging around the world, global warming and other world crises, it is nice to take in a film like “Marley and Me” and just laugh for the heck of it (shed a few tears as well).
