Dogs are so important to us and our lives that there are over 25 movies where dogs are the main characters or where the story line centers around the dog. With the weekend coming up, it might be nice to rent one or two of these flicks(watch them in the evening, and enjoy the summer day while we can, preferably with your dog).
Your family will love them and its just a fun way to realize how loveable these guys are to all of us. I don’t know how many of you are waiting for the new “Underdog” movie to come out, but it looks funny. Remember, “There’s no need to fear, Underdog is here”!!!!! I am probably dating myself, because many of you might not even remember the Underdog cartoon.
Within the next day or so, I’ll be picking a breed of the week and will share much info with you all. In the meantime, enjoy the list of “dog flicks” (as opposed to chick flicks…lol) and the link to the new “Underdog” movie!!!

Welcome to My Friendly Pets!!!! We are going to talk about all things DOG!! To me, I am wary of anyone who doesn’t like animals, and especially dogs. You know, there is nothing like walking in the door at the end of a hard day, feeling like you’ve been to hell and back, but waiting for you is a bundle (large or small) of energy and love. The tail is wagging, there might be some jumps and definitely some nice wet kisses. That’s what we get from our dogs - unconditional love and truth. Dogs love us no matter what and this blog will pay honor to dogs, whatever breed they are, big or tiny; loud or yippy; long haired or short.
In this blog, I would like to feature a “breed of the week” and look at a specific dog breed…don’t worry, we’ll talk about mutts too….they are sooooo loveable. I will offer some great health hints for our 4 legged friends as well as some tips, stories and anything new and exciting (there is always something) about our canine friends!!! Pics are welcome and I will show the dogs that have been part of our family and some others that I have grown to love.
There is never anything boring about dogs. They keep us company when we are lonely, warm on cold nights (if you let them sleep in the bed), we laugh at something silly they do and no matter how much you talk to them, they never argue or contradict you. What’s not to love?????
Starting this blog and sharing with you all is exciting. I look forward to to each entry and hopefully comments that you will share. We’ll meet again soon, I promise….ARF!!!

Hello out there, fellow dog lovers! I sincerely apologize for the absence of posts on this site over the past two weeks. Between final exams, a sick grandmother, and working almost non-stop, I haven’t been able to find much time for blogging! I took a job waiting tables for a little extra cash, and what was supposed to be a part-time gig turned into double shifts with one day off per week! To make matters even more complicated, my Grandmother just started dialysis for kidney failure. Since my family is three hours away, it’s hard for me to be with them right now, so I get phone updates every day. Holy crap, I usually don’t even know what day it is. The dogs are not too happy about this either. Teddy and Remy have started hiking their legs on the furniture, and Holly is just plain mad at me. Anywho, I’m planning a trip down south to be with family next week, so my postings will probably be few a far between once again. The dogs will be under the care of my husband, who will probably forget to feed them until I call and remind him! I’m kidding. Such is life, I suppose.
‘Dogs that Changed the World’ an awesome PBS documentary about how dogs decended from wild wolves to man’s best friend. The first of the two-part series explores theories on how the transformation happened. Part two of the documentary delves into the breeding practices that started during the Victorian Era, when dogs became popular among the wealthy. I find it quite fascinating! Watch the intro video below.
Traveling with pets can be frustrating, to say the least. Aside from the usual hurdles when it comes to traveling with pets, dogs and small cars don’t usually mix well. Lucky for you, fellow dog lovers, I’ve found a website (actually a blog) that reviews cars, mostly SUV’s according to their usefulness as “dogmobiles.” I have never bought a vehicle according to how many dogs I can fit into it comfortably, but with three dogs in the family now, it’s not sounding like such a bad idea!
Illinois Senator, Dick Durbin has started a campaign to change the standards for pet food evaluation. He is urging the FDA to change their policies for regulating the pet food industry. Pets are important members of our families, and should be treated accordingly. Click Here for more about Senator Durbin’s Campaign.
I came across another dog food recipe that looks pretty healthy. This one is a little softer for those old dogs with missing or no teeth. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
2 cups cooked chicken, chopped
2 cups brown rice
1 cup raw carrots, chopped
1 cup cooked spinach, chopped
Cook brown rice until just underdone, leaving some crunchiness in consistency. Combine all ingredients in an airtight container, mixing until well blended.
Store in refrigerator.
Do you talk to your dogs? I find myself walking around the house saying things like “Hey Teddy-Weddy… Whatcha doin Holly-Wolly” and “Hey my pretty babies, what did you do today?” Of course, they have no idea what I’m talking about, but they sure do get riled up when I talk to them. They may not know what I’m saying, but they definitely know I’m talking to them. My husband laughs at me, but I catch him doing it too. The dogs also try to “talk” back to me. Teddy whines and barks at me until I pick him up, and Remy makes the growling sound when he wants to play. Holly isn’t very vocal, but she finds her own little ways of getting my attention, like licking me in the face until I rub her belly. There are certain words that they know as well. For example, they know “go” means we’re getting in the car. They really go nuts when they hear “go” because it means a car ride! Another one is “pee-pee.” All I have to do is say “Gotta pee-pee,” and they’re all three standing at the door barking and wimpering with excitement.
My little Bichon Frise puppy, Remy has been selected as the ‘dog of the day’ over at Dogster.com. He’s so excited that he’s chasing his tail as we speak.
