Weight loss - for dogs?
If you were like 2 out of 5 people in this country, you made a New Year’s resolution to lose some weight. Yes, we are all weight obsessed, but if that’s the case, why is the percentage of people considered obese on a constant increase?
I guess it would not come as a surprise then that somewhere between 25 and 40 percent of dogs are obese or likely to become obese. There may be a few of those dogs that actually have a physiological reason for putting on the pounds, but in most cases overweight dogs are overweight because of the same reasons we are - we eat too much and don’t exercise enough.
Dogs will try to eat as much as they can…it is in their nature, but they don’t know what that overeating will do to them. They also don’t realize that it is up to us…the owners to insure that our dogs stay healthy and fit. By monitoring the food intake of your dog and minimize snacking and table scraps, your dog will lose unnecessary pounds. Dogs don’t have any more ambition to get up and exercise than we do, however we know we should because of the health benefits gained by doing so.
There is no better way to get yourself healthy than to do it with our dog. If you see some ponch on your pooch that you know shouldn’t be there, watch his/her diet as you are watching your own!! Next, get your pup moving and that might be something as easy as going for a 15 -20 minute walk twice a day. Everyone will be happier and healthier from these efforts!!!
